Reduced Fees

Intentional

My approach to therapy (and all things) is deeply intentional. I believe that as a collective we can no longer afford to ignore the significant cost of not addressing one of the primary reasons people are unable to access mental health care—financial inaccessibility.

Statistics

In 2023, Loma Linda University Health reported, 5,566,000 adults in California have been diagnosed with a mental illness and 1,562,000 adults in California did not receive needed mental health care because of cost. In 2023, CBS8 reported San Diego jails are the largest mental health provider in the region. That is devastating and unacceptable. These statistics are why I offer a pay what you can approach. I want to help the collective. To fill the gap. To be a part of the solution.

Collaboration

I work collaboratively with my clients throughout their time with me to ensure therapy is and stays accessible. I try to build relationships with my clients without any decision-making power given to external entities (like insurance companies). This is also the primary reason I made the decision to refrain from taking insurance and decided to implement a reduced fee approach for those experiencing financial hardship.

Flexibility

This means that I do have a standard rate for services, but I also offer wide flexibility according to what someone can reasonably afford.

Consultation

My reduced fee rate is set by a simple human-to-human conversation that is determined in the initial consultation. I know conversations regarding finances may be uncomfortable for some people, especially those asking for a reduction of fees. Please know, this conversation is one that I encourage because this method is born from my personal values and ethics. My fee-setting process is an intentional example of how I choose to invest and represent the collectiveness of humankind.

Individual Circumstance

I offer a reduced fee model for fee structure because I can’t provide effective mental health care without considering the whole person. That includes considering a client’s financial means to access and continue care. I hope to change the way that mental health is delivered. I understand mental health is complex. One of the reasons for the complexity, is individual circumstance.

The Whole Person

Providing services to only those that can afford the full service fee doesn’t sit well me. I knew I couldn’t accept that as my only choice. I wasn’t “worth less” earlier in my life when I was paid less money, and I’m not “worth more” now just because I had the privilege to access education. So, when designing my practice, I paused. I looked through the lens of the whole person. I looked for possible gaps and then I designed methods to close them. My design allows for flexibility. Things aren’t still. Sometimes, things change and I want to be able to support my client’s through change in circumstance.

How Can I Help?

I’ve worked passionately and aggressively to design and protect my vision of a more equitable practice that asks, “How can I help?” I want to make mental healthcare more accessible. As a collective we shouldn’t have to postpone a service that can protect our mental and/or physical health due to cost—a service that can potentially save a life. If you feel like you can’t afford the full fee for a needed mental health service, let’s have a conversation on how I can help.
